SUBJECT: EC-AT 2-3 upshift chirp
DETAILS:

While driving, there is a metallic chirp noise occurring during the 2-3 upshift after the A/T is up to normal operating temperature.

This noise will occur while operating in the "D" range. The 4WD is the only model reported to have this condition at this time.

  1. Verify the concern is actually from the transmission.
  2. If the condition occurs, remove the oil pan to access the 2-3 band apply servo cover. Remove the cover (valve body removal is not necessary) and servo piston to gain access to the servo piston stem (P/N BV11-19-386). Check the stem for damage or excessive wear at both ends and replace if needed. Refer to WSM page K1-84 (1991 WSM) for specific location of piston stem.
