SUBJECT: Recovering PCM-module blanked during recall 86003 |

- DETAILS:
While performing recall 86003, during reprogramming PCM, the WDS gives and
error message "Error code 11 -0x23 851082" or similar. Vehicle will not start.
Module was accidentally blanked during programming phase. DO NOT DELETE THE
VEHICLE SESSION! SAVE IT. THEN REBOOT PTU. Then follow the procedure below.
There is a good chance you can recover the PCM and finish reprogramming to the
calibration update for Recall 86003 by perfroming the following procedure.
The following Procedures are developed to help you recover 2000 MPV PCM's
should WDS give the "No communication" error message during the reprogramming of
the PCM for Recall 86003. This will blank the PCM and the vehicle will not start
should this occur.
FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE BELOW IF THE VEHICLE SESSION" HAS NOT BEEN DELETED.
- After "No Comms" error message is displayed, select "cancel" and "exit"
back to "Vehicle Specification" screen.
- Select "toolbox", then "Module Programming" then press tick.
- Select "Programmable Module Installation", "PCM", press tick.
- Screen shows "Turn ignition switch OFF". Do this, press tick.
- Screen shows "install new Module", ignore this, press tick.
- Screen shows "remove fuel pump fuses..", do not remove any fuses, press
tick.
- Screen shows " Turn Key ON", do this, and downloading box should appear.
(Takes approx 25-30 minutes to complete PCM programming)
- When completed, screen shows "Turn Key OFF", do this press tick.
- Screen shows "Turn Key ON", do this, press tick.
- Screen shows "Turn Key OFF". Do this, press tick.
- Screen shows "Calibration loaded and checked", press tick.
- Screen shows "Calibration P/N and instructs you to install a revised
calibration sticker in appropriate location. Do this, press tick
- Screen shows, "Start Engine, do this and confirm MIL is OFF". Turn Engine
OFF. Press "menu" ICON and exit back to "Vehicle Specification" screen. Press
"Close session" ICON and delete vehicle session.
- Disconnect WDS DLC cable from vehicle. Procedure completed.
FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE BELOW IF THE VEHICLE SESSION HAS BEEN DELETED
- Press "16 PIN", "All except those below", and then tick.
- Screen shows cable hookup. Turn ignition switch to ON. Press tick.
- Screen shows WDS communicating with PCM "progress bar" and "Operation in
progress". Quickly disconnect the DLC cable from the top of the PTU.
- The screen shows "No communication Do you want to retry? Press NO.
- Screen shows "Turn key OFF". Do this, press tick.
- Screen shows "Turn key OFF". Do this, press tick.
- Screen shows "Turn Key ON" briefly, then shows "WDS is unable to
communicate with the PCM. You will be prompted to select a vehicle from the
vehicle list". Press tick. Screen shows a list of vehicles. At the bottom of
screen select "All other", press tick.
- Screen shows "To enable WDS to identify PCM, please enter one of the
following information" PCM part number or Calibration number (7, 10, or 15
digits) or Tear tag number Press tick.
- Press the light blue box area next to "tear tag" and enter "QQZ4, TLM1,
ERY4, or whatever the tear tag number of the PCM is. Press tick
- "Vehicle specification" screen appears asking "Is this correct?" Press
YES, if specifications information is correct for your vehicle. If not,
re-enter the correct PCM tear Tag number.
- Screen shows" Run Engine management Diagnostic". Press tick.
- "Vehicle specification" screen appears. Re-install the DLC cable to the
top of the PTU.
- Press "Toolbox", "Module Programming", press tick. Please wait.
- Press "Programmable Module Installation", "PCM", press tick.
- Screen shows "Turn Ignition switch OFF". Do this and press tick.
- Screen shows " Install new module", ignore this, press tick.
- Screen instructs you to "Remove the fuel pump and cooling fan fuses..".
Ignore this, press tick.
- Screen asks "Is this vehicle equipped with PATS?" Press NO.
- Screen shows "Turn ignition switch ON". Do this.
- Screen shows "Downloading Data" box with progress bar. (Takes approx 25-30
minutes).
- Screen shows "Turn ignition switch OFF". Do this. Press tick.
- Screen shows" Turn ignition switch ON". Do this. Press tick.
- Screen shows "Turn ignition switch OFF". Do this. Press tick.
- Screen shows "Calibration loaded and checked", press tick.
- Screen shows "Reinstall fuses". Press tick.
- Screen shows "Calibration P/N and instructs you to install a PCM
reprogramming label in appropriate location. Do this, press tick.
- Screen shows, "Start Engine", do this and confirm MIL is OFF. Turn Engine
OFF.
- Press "menu" ICON and exit back to "Vehicle Specification" screen. Press
"Close session" ICON and delete vehicle session.
- Disconnect WDS DLC cable from vehicle. Procedure completed.
- Recall has been successfully performed. Install recall label.
