Symptoms and Conditions:On some vehicles, a squeak or creaking noise can be heard from the instrument cluster area while driving.
The noise can be duplicated by pressing on the instrument cluster or the meter hood trim around the cluster.
Repair Procedure:
The root cause of the noise is from the instrument cluster alignment pins.
When the cluster was installed, one alignment pin was not lined up with its alignment hole causing the cluster to be sitting on top of the alignment pin allowing it to make contact with the meter hood around the cluster.
- Confirm noise by pressing the instrument cluster or meter hood.
- If noise is present, remove the meter hood (see Workshop Manual page 09-17-6).
- Look for the cluster to be sitting on one of its alignment pins. Loosen both screws holding the cluster and re-install the cluster correctly so both alignment pins are centered in the cluster holes and re-tighten the cluster screws (see Workshop Manual page 09-22-3)
- Re-install the meter hood and confirm the noise is gone.
