SUBJECT: Knocking noise climbing up slope/hill |

Symptoms and Conditions
Knocking/pinging noise may be heard from engine while climbing up slope or hill with intake air temperature of 340 degrees Fahrenheit or higher and engine speed of
3,000-3,500 rpm. This noise can be caused by inadequate setting of map data in PCM and can be corrected by replacing it with
'98 MY PCM, mentioned in the repair procedure.
Customers complaining of this should have their vehicle inspected and if necessary, have the
'98 MY PCM installed.
Repair Procedure
- Verify the symptom/condition.
- If noise is duplicated, replace PCM with modified part.
- If noise is not duplicated, refer to workshop manual.
