NOTICE No: MT000003624
MODEL: Mazda MPV YEAR: 2000
AFFECTED VINs: JM3 LW28** Y0 100000 - JM3 LW28** Y0 166191
SUBJECT: Purge valve solenoid wire; DTC P0443, P0455, P0300
DETAILS:
The MIL is illuminated on the dash and DTCs P0443, P0455 and P0300 are stored in the PCM memory.

CAUSE:
The wire going from the PCM to the Purge Valve Solenoid is broken inside the wire insulation NEAR THE CONNECTOR, creating an 'open' in the Purge Valve circuit. The wire harness is too short causing the wire to break under the insulation from the powertrain moving during accel.

FIELD REPAIR:
Locate the green w/black tracer wire (G/B) connected to PCM pin 18 and connector B1-07. Refer to 2001 MPV wiring diagram page Z-20. Repair the wire by removing the connector from the purge valve solenoid and adding additional wire to increase the total length. Use the Mazda Terminal Repair kit (P/N 49-L088-0A0) to make the job easier. Use a tie- strap to secure the G/B wire to the harness making sure it can move with the powertrain during acceleration.

MASS PRODUCTION CHANGE:
The Emission (EM) Harness length was increased and the plastic protector was removed on all harnesses starting 4/8/00 and began with vehicle JM3LW28****166193. All harnesses in parts stock are the longer modified version.
